Welcome
8th Hole, Mountain Air Golf Club

During his 25 year career Scott Pool has worked at all levels of golf course design and construction, and has been involved in the creation of some of golf´s most honored courses.  A 1981 graduate of Florida´s prestigious Lake City School of Golf Operations, Pool spent ten years working with legendary designer, Pete Dye.  The two met when Pool worked as a summer intern under Dye while still attending college, and they quickly developed such an excellent working relationship that Pool joined Dye´s organization full time as soon as he finished school.  After 2 years of paying his dues at little more than minimum wage, Scott was tapped by Dye to supervise construction of Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Nebraska.  At just 25 years of age, Scott´s efforts helped earn the new course recognition as Golf Digest´s 2nd Best Built Course in the United States in 1982.

Over the next several years, as a key member of Pete Dye´s team, he shaped and supervised the construction of many high-profile courses for Dye, including Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wisconsin; The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee; and The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island; all perennial members of Golf Magazine´s Top 100.  Striking out on his own in 1991, he continued his work on high profile courses.  He supervised construction of Kiva Dunes, the #1 rated golf course in Alabama… no mean feat in a state that boasts the fabled Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail… and worked with Jack Nicklaus, shaping Bear´s Best, a premier daily fee course north of Atlanta, Georgia.  Among his own signature courses are the award winning course at Mountain Air Country Club in Burnsville, North Carolina and Waterfall Country Club, a course at Lake Burton, Georgia honored by Georgia Golf News as one of five "Best of the Best" private golf courses in Georgia, sharing the honor with the likes of Augusta National and Ocean Forest Club on Sea Island.  Currently, Pool is completing construction of his latest design, Eagle´s Brooke Golf Club, the centerpiece of a private, upscale golf community south of Atlanta, due to open in the Fall of 2006.  He has also just broken ground on the much-anticipated third nine at Mountain Air Country Club.

In 2000, Pool stepped briefly aside from his design schedule to adapt a new, high definition surveying technology for use in the restoration and replication of golf greens.  He had long been intrigued by the challenges of rebuilding greens using traditional survey data, and was confident that the new “LIDAR” technology being introduced to the construction and engineering industries could offer a level of accuracy in restoration never before available.  His confidence proved to be well-founded and he now offers GreenScan 3D services to golf courses nationwide.  For more detailed information on this unique service, visit the GreenScan 3D website.
