Spectacularly nestled atop Slickrock Mountain, in Burnsville, North Carolina, Mountain Air is the third highest course east of the Mississippi. It opened in 1990, and ranges as high as 4600 feet above sea level, undergoing a full 900 feet of elevation change from its highest to its lowest points.
Architect Scott Pool carved the course into the very contours of Slickrock Mountain, weaving ribbons of green through dense hardwood forests and sheer outcroppings of granite. Hundreds of boulders weighing thousands of tons were meticulously stacked to create dramatic tees unlike anything you've ever seen. Streams, waterfalls, and ponds punctuate this magnificent course with glimmers of crystal blue and sparkling silver.
